Fear Sucks: It's Time to Show It Who's Boss
In the last ten years, if there's one thing that’s become clear to me, it’s this: fear is one fierce rival.
It knows exactly how to strike when you’re about to step outside your comfort zone or make bold career moves.
Fear loves to shout the loudest: You’re not enough. Coaching isn’t for you. You can’t find a better job. But here’s the truth—it’s all just noise.
Fear takes one bad memory, a past mistake, or something someone once said, and twists it until it feels true. But fear isn’t fact—it’s just information, and it rarely tells the truth.
So, how do you overcome it?
The key is to start each day working on your fearlessness. Just like building muscle at the gym, the more you practice, the stronger you’ll get. Here’s a simple exercise to try:
Step 1: Ask yourself: What’s my FEAR level today? Take a moment to reflect, write it down, and keep track over time. It’s surprisingly helpful and builds awareness for when fear sneaks in.
Step 2: Ask yourself: What’s one thing I can do today to call fear what it is? It doesn’t have to be something big. Maybe it’s speaking up in a meeting, sending that email you’ve been avoiding, or simply reminding yourself: I am enough.
Start small, but start today. You’ve got this, and your fearless career is waiting.
